Requirements

What sort of vehicle do I need to operate a private hire vehicle?

The licence is used with a vehicle assigned to it, and the specific conditions are set by each autonomous community in accordance with national guidelines. What you should always check:

  • Maximum age and minimum specifications of the vehicle permitted in your autonomous community for assignment or replacement.
  • Environmental label. In major urban centres, low-emission zones mean that ECO or CERO status is not just an occasional requirement but an operational necessity — and a factor affecting resale value.
  • Valid passenger transport insurance and any markings or insignia required by regional regulations.

In the market, the vehicle has a clear impact on the price: a recent ECO hybrid with reasonable mileage adds value; a C-rated diesel at the upper age limit reduces the value or may not be eligible for registration at all. That is why the listings on VTC360 specify the make, model, year, mileage and emissions label when the vehicle is included, and the valuation tool takes this into account as a factor. If you are buying a licence without a vehicle, factor the cost of leasing or purchasing the vehicle into your budget — the simulator includes this in the costs.
