How many VTC licences are there in Spain (and in my province)?

The honest answer starts with the source: the official figure is held in the Ministry of Transport’s register of authorisations, which publishes statistics by province and type of authorisation, and changes every month — additions following court rulings, removals due to expiry, and transfers. Any figure frozen in an article is bound to be out of date; that is why at VTC360 we prefer to provide you with real-time data: the regulatory map and the provincial pages publish the official authorisations for each province with their source and cut-off date, updated with every refresh of the register.

What the snapshot does allow us to say:

• The market is highly concentrated. Madrid leads the national ride-hailing fleet by a wide margin, followed by the major urban and tourist markets — Barcelona, Málaga, the Mediterranean coast and the archipelagos. In much of inland Spain, authorisations are counted in the tens.
• The national total is barely growing. With the application process effectively closed across the whole country, new registrations are trickling in — usually through the courts — so the fleet is essentially as it stands: that is why the real route into the sector is the(/licencias-vtc) [secondary market].
• The figure per province is what matters economically. The price of a licence does not depend on the Spanish total but on the scarcity and demand within that territory: the relationship between the provincial licence pool, platform demand and local regulation is precisely what is reflected in the price index, ranging from €23,016 in A Coruña to €198,014 in the Balearic Islands (July 2026).
