Yes. It’s the same licence agreement that exists from the owner’s perspective, but seen from your point of view: you pay a monthly rent to the licence holder and the business is yours — you put in the work, you keep the profit. For many drivers, it’s the gateway into the sector without tying up capital in a purchase.
The starting figures, based on the VTC360 marketplace (July 2026): published and finalised rental rates range from €1,500 to €2,200 per month depending on the province — the breakdown by location can be found at how much does it cost to rent a licence. As a guide to income, verified operators on the network report turnover of €6,500–7,100 per month per vehicle in major cities when operating at full capacity; a single driver on a single shift generates less revenue than that fleet ceiling, so do your own calculations using the simulator before signing anything.
What you need to get started:
- Business registration: self-employed (the usual route when starting out) or a company, with your tax and Social Security obligations in order.
- A vehicle that your local authority permits you to register — age, condition, emissions label — with valid passenger insurance. Sometimes this is provided by the licence holder; this is specified in the contract.
- A properly drafted operating licence assignment contract: rent, duration and notice period, security deposit (two months’ rent is standard), who is liable for fines and the licence renewal, and what happens if either party breaches the contract. It’s your working tool: treat it as such. The legal requirements can be found at Is it legal to lease a VTC licence?.
- Registration on platforms (Uber, Cabify, Bolt) with the vehicle and licence documentation.
The two main risks of this model: the lease payment is due even in a bad month — it’s your number one fixed cost — and the licence isn’t yours: if the contract ends or the licence holder sells it without an agreed subrogation clause, you’ll be left without a means of earning a living. Negotiate the term and notice period with this in mind.
The current, verifiable range of rental offers, filterable by province, can be found on the marketplace. And if the figures work out so well that you start thinking about buying, that move has its own set of calculations: is a VTC licence a good investment in 2026?
